Teamwork with strangers

This week of study had a very particular exercise, we prepared a case study and we had to present it in class, the peculiarity of this exercise is that our work group was organized by the instructor, something that does not usually go down well with classmates because on many occasions it is a lottery, there are committed people in the group who help but others who, on the contrary, do not contribute, to my surprise, my multicultural work group was very productive and I was very satisfied to have worked with them.

I grew up in a culture where my parents told me  "Do not talk to strangers" and I understand the danger that people outside my family circle can imply, but in addition to my shyness this created in me an insecurity of talking to strangers, I do not mean to put aside the common sense of self-protection, but I do want to address the importance of starting to interact with the people around us, getting out of the comfort zone of relating to old friends, from the same culture or language.

It is not the first time that I have worked in a group with some strangers, in the second term for the Marketing class I had the experience of doing teamwork and unfortunately it did not go as expected, the work was between 6 people and we divided it, Before joining the work and detailing it for delivery, we had a couple of zoom meetings and only between 3 and 4 people met, one day before delivery when the work was almost finished we noticed that a colleague's part was missing, we tried to contact her but we were not successful, the person who took the lead was going to upload the incomplete work, but I did not agree so I sent an email to the group suggesting that we divide the part of the partner and thus finish soon, but everyone answered me that they did not agree, that they were not going to work twice as hard, this was very disappointing because they expect everyone's support, so I understood that they were working individually for a collective note.

I decided to do the part of my partner alone and requested a day before uploading the final work, and so it was done, the leader uploaded the document and commented on my extra work, something that I appreciated her recognition, it was a bittersweet experience because my work group was very good but they did not think as a team.
