Communication Is the Manager’s Job

People are beings in constant communication and this has been key in the evolution of man throughout history, currently it is essential to communicate effectively, since it is essential for the quality of our relationships and to make efficient use of time, something that It is undoubtedly invaluable, within management it is of great importance to achieve effective communication since, as the book Understanding management mentions, "Managers spend at least 80 percent of each working day in direct communication with others, the other 20 percent of a typical manager's time is spent on desk work.

Managers must establish objective communication processes such as transmitting motivating and clear messages that promote precise and visionary ideas, achieving important interaction in the work team to meet goals, in addition, effective communication allows generating a harmonious work space with sense and dynamics within the organization that encourages creativity.

I think that many of us have been in work spaces where communication does not flow, for multiple reasons and this causes misunderstandings, work errors, discussions that translate into monetary losses, low productivity, bad work environment and high staff turnover; The stress and frustration caused by the disorder in communication was one of the main reasons why I left my old job in a restaurant. A year ago I worked as a kitchen assistant and waitress in a small restaurant. The manager made frequent changes. on the menu and promotions with the aim of attracting more customers but did not use effective communication channels, sometimes it was voice to voice and as happens with the broken phone it usually ended badly and the customer was upset because the information was not clear even in the kitchen, due to the lack of procedures, the recipes could vary, so there was not the same quality in flavor.

I do not consider that the size of the company or the experience it has in the market is a determining factor in the quality of communication, in fact now I work for a retail company that is multinational and although the communication is better than in my old job there are still shortcomings that are due to a large extent to the lack of leadership and communication skills of some managers, so as a future manager I am clear that communication is essential if I want to be effective in my goals and with my work team, the little experience work that I have teaches me how to learn but also about the mistakes that I must avoid.
